Hi there. I am Tony and, for my sins, I am Chairman of WRR. I have been running since the dark ages of the mid eighties and started my career at KidlingtonRC where I was Chairman for a couple of years. After moving to Witney I joined the club in 1994 and have been here ever since. I have been fortunate enough in my running career to have won a couple of races here and there and have also won quite a few county titles and I still take pride in being able to beat the young 'uns.
I have been running with W.R.R for 22 years during which I have run13 marathons. I have been Chairman 3 times and enjoyed the camaraderie and friendliness of the club. Though now not running
as much, I still like the challenge of competing in the various races.
I have seen a lot of changes at the club, but it always retains a great spirit along with a completive edge |

My running started back in 1995 when I ran the Town and Gown 10k with some friends and I just kept going. Joining the club introduced me to many other like minded people, and my husband!! Now I mainly run socially, never been a very competitive runner, but enjoy the challenge of marathons and longer distance runs. dleigh101@btinternet.com

I joined Witney Roadrunners during it's first year, 1985 and am currently Treasurer and joint Race Director of the Cotswold Classic. I am not the fastest runner in the club but each year I try and complete as domestic league as high up as possible. I enjoy the excellent team spirit, camaraderie and social side of the club. I also enjoy completing a few different races a little further a field such as the Cyprus 4 Day Challenge, Northumberland Costal Run or Philadelphia Half Marathon.

I have been associated with WRR since about 1995 starting as a supportive parent and helping with juniors. After being cajouyled I started to run, even if I was always at the tail end of races. There is nothing more enthusing than being overtaken by a load of mud covered men in cross country, worse is having my son overtaking and telling me to get a move on.Undaunted I continued until my body insisted I stop a few years ago.I have been on the committee for the past three years and you will see me trying hard to sell raffle tickets at event

I took over the roll of junior club Coach I was a keen runner who had run several marathons. I had enjoyed the camaraderie of the club, but unfortunately suffered a long term injury that cut my running career short. Therefore still wanting to be associated with the club I took on this new roll and enjoyed watching the section grow to what is today .I do still compeat in the vets track and fields events

I’ve been a member of Witney Road Runners since about 1991, having joined soon after I first moved to Oxfordshire. I first took up running in 1983 while working in London. In 1986 I did my first marathon, London, and have been running without a break (injuries allowing) since that time. These days I’m more of a fun runner, having mostly hung up my racing shoes, but I still enjoy getting out for a run, particularly if it’s off road – and the muddier the better! I’ve been on the committee for about 5 years and, as most existing members will know, my main job is to send out the weekly news letter and pick the Thursday night routes. If anyone has any suggestions for improving either the news letter or the routes, please let me know

Hi, I guess I'm one of the younger ones of the group! I have got the responsibility of looking after the Newcomers within the club. This can mean anything from answering your first intital email to taking you out on a run with us. I am also the Welfare Officer within the club which I can confidently contribute to from being an experienced Human Resources Manager within a large retail company. Personally, I have been running for 9 years now ranging from 5k to 26.2 mile races just for general fitness (yes that includes the very cold weather also!) asmith85@btinternet.com or 07786913130

Hi there, I am the one that has been put forward to be in charge of social events but first let me tell you about how my running started. I joined running with the club about 9 years ago and mostly did short runs but then on a london marathon day when I endulged in a few beers my mouth took off and I boasted that anyone could do the marathon! So the following year I was there on the starting line and loved it but never again, I will stick to doing half marathons or less.

My role is to maintain the race entry folder - this contains the race entry forms for our league races and many others and is available to view on Thursday nights. I have been a member since 2006 and in 2007 myself and four other Witney Roadrunners took part in the London Marathon and raised £6,000 for a local charity. In 2008 I achieved a sub 40 min 10K and also won the Vet 40 category in our short league. I enjoy socialising with and competing against the other club members. graham.ferris@ntlworld.com

I only started running in 1995 to keep fit for the ‘Old Boys’ football season but having joined the club in early 1996, I became hooked. 1997 started with the Disney Marathon and is the year I look to for my best achievements. Since then my running has settled down to about 3 times a week but if a marathon target is set, the 6 month slog of gradually upping the mileage and number of runs takes over (but its all worth it in the end). I’m currently sticking to my favoured distances of 6 and 10 miles, but Sundays tend to be off road, running selected Cotswold Walks and Liz and I have just completed the Wychwood Way (in sections). Only 2 races entered for 2009 but the year is yet young. dleigh101@btinternet.com
Hi. Many of you already know me as an inflictor of extreme pain! Apart from being a member of Witney Roadrunners, I am a myotherapist dealing with all sorts of sports injuries. I also teach pilates and have classes specifically put aside for all you runners. I no longer run due to a replacement knee joint, but you will often find me marshalling club events or sitting on the marathon coach, usually giving advice on stretching or the best way to sort out and prevent injuries.
